Still fresh from her dramatic pro card win at Junior Nationals, Stephanie Willes is preparing to make her IFBB debut at the Tampa Pro this weekend. The champ of physique class B was on top of her game at Junior Nationals and will be part of a sprawling 40-pro line up in the WP division down in Florida on Saturday. It’s the biggest category of the show and boasts more competitors than figure (32) or bikini (23).

I was lucky to catch up with Steph this week to get a few thoughts on her approaching debut as well as a quick look back at capturing her pro card in Chicago recently, a career-best, dreamlike moment so thrillingly unexpected that she hasn’t yet grasped its magnitude. “I’m an IFBB Pro,” she said as though still trying to convince herself that it’s true. “It’s surreal and it still hasn’t hit me yet. Almost like a ‘Sword in the Stone’ moment.”

However, Steph is clearly motivated by the win and isn’t planning on slowing down any time soon. After Tampa, the tireless 33-year-old revealed plans to compete at the Europa show in Dallas and will finish the year at the Titan Pro in Culver City, California in October. “Then next year I hope to do 5-6 shows as well! Accomplishing one dream and moving to the next—which would be to earn a spot at the Olympia!” she said.

The athletic mom of three and certified personal trainer has been knocking at the door in the women’s physique category almost since she began. In national level competitions last year, she placed fourth at the North Americans and third at the USAs, just one spot away from clinching the pros. But 2013 has been her breakout year.

A former softball and volleyball player, she competed in both figure and bodybuilding before finding her place—and eventually winning a much desired pro card—in physique. “I really can accomplish my dreams with hard work, dedication, drive and perseverance,” Stephanie said.

As mentioned last time in the NPC USAs photoshoot recap, we’ve got a great deal more photos and video of Steph coming soon from her hometown of Las Vegas, including a solo shoot as well as tag-team posing with fellow new pro Rikki Smead. Until then, check out highlights—abs, quads, back and biceps—from some of Steph’s previous shoots.

Meanwhile, it’s bikinis on the beach and a pro debut for Stephanie in the Sunshine State this weekend. Talking about lining up with the rest of the IFBB pros in Tampa this weekend, an excited Steph said: “I’m elated to be part of this event and stand next to the best physiques in the world.”
