One of the nicest surprises on the site so far this year is the debut of Kelcie Gahley, an adorable 19-year-old fitness star from Hawaii who has been on quite a roll in the sport since she opened her competitive career with a win at last year’s Tanji Johnson Classic up in Vancouver, Washington. She followed that with a showing at the 2012 Emerald Cup, where she finished second to Jacklyn Abrams, who of course went on to turn pro.

Kelcie has a very accomplished sports background, having started in gymnastics at five years old and moving on to become a competitive cheerleader and making the national level team by the 10th grade. In addition, she has also been involved in soccer, powerlifting and track & field where she was a pole vaulter. She impressed the bosses at her gym so much that they hired her as a personal trainer right out of high school.

This year at the Cup, there was no one to stop Kelcie from capturing a first place trophy and she did just that by winning the fitness short class. Currently, she has designs on competing at Fitness Nationals set for July 5 in Teaneck, New Jersey. There, she’ll try to duplicate close friend Jacklyn’s triumph by earning a pro card on her first try. It won’t be easy, but if anyone can repeat the prodigious accomplishment, this athletically gifted youngster is the one.

I caught up with Kelcie for a quick interview after her win and photo shoots at the Cup. Hopefully I’ll be able to bring you more from that soon, but in the meantime we’re delighted to have Kelcie on the site and hope to see plenty more of this rising fitness star to come.
