Erica Blockman Switching to Physique Division

Small Change: Former figure competitor and bodybuilder Erica Blockman is poised to challenge physique division shorties.

Small Change: Former figure competitor and bodybuilder Erica Blockman is poised to challenge physique division shorties.

Erica Blockman finished only a few spots away from a figure pro card at last year’s NPC Nationals in Atlanta, placing sixth in a class of 24 women. The top two took home pro cards. This year, it looks like she’ll trade quarter turns for a posing round and try the physique division instead.

The transition will be a cinch. The 5-foot-2 former gymnast has the strength and athleticism of a fitness competitor and has previously competed in the bodybuilding category at the Emerald Cup, so she knows how to get her flex on. In fact, Erica could probably do well in just about anything on stage. Also, she’s made tremendous gains in the gym, adding size and definition to her legs to match her already outstanding upper body. As her most recent pictures show, she’s more balanced and polished than ever.

Erica hopes to be ready for the Jr. Nationals this summer. If she comes in on point, considering her progress, she’ll be an exciting and very strong contender in the physique short class.
