Casie Leigh Rebounds in Fitness
Time to take a closer look at Casie Leigh, the baby-faced 23-year-old athlete who went from being a college basketball prospect to one of the most popular new figure models. But it didn’t come easy for the newly minted “Worlds Tallest Figure Competitor.”
When Casie enrolled at Colorado State University on a basketball scholarship in 2004, a future dominating the court seemed like a perfect fit for the towering 6-foot-2, blue-eyed blonde out of Minnesota, but it wasn’t meant to be. The storybook college sports career never flourished and after two years of hoops, an unhappy and disillusioned Casie left the team.
Things got worse from there. A few months later, Casie learned she had celiac disease, an intolerance to gluten that required dramatic changes in diet. Adjusting to the digestive disorder caused her to lose weight; she went from a strapping 185-pounds down to 160.
But like so many success stories, Casie resourcefully looked adversity in the eye and refused to blink. She made a commitment and began a new quest to get healthy again. By the time she started reading fitness magazines seeking tips on eating right, a recharged Casie was back on track.
She returned to the gym steely with resolve, determined to restore the energy and build back the muscle she had packed on while lifting weights four days a week during school. She eventually worked her way back to a sturdy 175-pounds.
In the winter of ‘07, another challenge came Casie’s way when the changes to her physique compelled a friend to introduce the subject of competing. In April of last year, just four months after getting the idea, she made her figure debut at the NPC Northern Colorado Bodybuilding and Figure Championship, placing third.
Two more shows followed — the NPC North Star Fitness & Figure Show held in her home state and the NPC Rocky Mountain in Colorado only two weeks later — laying the foundation for a sparkling new figure career and majestic pseudonym. Casie was back on top, successfully navigating from hardwood to hardbody.
Today, the “Worlds Tallest Figure Competitor” works as a personal trainer and sports nutritionist, and with the recent launch of CasieLeigh.com has a brand new home on the web. Looking ahead, it’s safe to say that when it comes to all things fitness, there may not be a goal too high — literally or figuratively — for her to reach up and snatch.
